Gemini Notebook (called NotebookLM until Google renamed it in July 2026) answers questions from the sources you give it rather than the open web, and points back to the passage each answer came from. That makes it well suited to the documents comms teams actually work from: annual reports, consultation responses, policy papers, interview transcripts, board packs. You can interrogate a 200-page document in an afternoon and check every answer against the paragraph it came from. The audio overview feature gets the attention, but the grounding is the part that matters for professional use.

If you are researching the open web rather than your own files, Perplexity is the right tool. If you need drafting, tone work and reasoning across a long brief, a general assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT will take you further. And if your organisation is a Microsoft shop, Copilot's grounding in your own tenancy covers similar ground without adding a Google account to the stack.
