Slack is where a lot of internal communication actually happens: announcements land in channels, and the reaction shows up in threads and emoji within minutes. In January 2026 Salesforce made Slackbot generally available as a personal AI agent on Business+ and Enterprise+, able to find answers across the conversations, files and channels a user can already see, draft canvases and meeting notes, find calendar time and surface priorities. Third-party agents now sit in the same threads: Anthropic launched Claude Tag in June 2026 for Claude Team and Enterprise customers, summoned with @Claude, with admins choosing which data and tools it can reach in each channel. For internal communicators that turns Slack from a distribution channel into a place where you can draft, recap and read the room without leaving it.

For comms teams: internal comms teams in organisations that already run on Slack.

Best for

  • • Internal comms teams in organisations that already run on Slack
  • • Catching up on and summarising reaction to announcements
  • • Drafting updates and recaps where the conversation already is
  • • Teams wanting an AI assistant inside the channel rather than in a separate tab

Pricing

Free; Pro $8.75/user/month monthly or $7.25 on annual billing; Business+ $18 monthly or $15 annual; Enterprise+ from $45/user/month, annual only, through sales (USD).

Verified October 2026 on slack.com/pricing, which serves USD prices to UK visitors. Slackbot as a personal agent is on Business+ and Enterprise+, with a limited trial for Free and Pro described as coming soon. Third-party AI assistant apps are on Pro and above. Enterprise search across connected apps is Enterprise+ only.

Pricing last verified Oct 2026 – check vendor site for current rates.

What works well

  • + The agent works where staff already talk, so there is no new tool to adopt
  • + Slackbot respects existing permissions and only surfaces what the user can already see
  • + Slack states that it does not train large language models on customer data
  • + Room for third-party agents alongside Slack's own

Watch out for

  • - The Slackbot agent sits on Business+ and above, so the useful AI is not on the cheaper plans
  • - An agent that reads channels is reading staff conversation, which needs a clear position before rollout
  • - Less natural for organisations standardised on Microsoft Teams, where Copilot does the equivalent job
  • - USD pricing only on the vendor site

When to choose this

Choose Slack's AI features when your organisation already runs on Slack and you want drafting, recaps and reaction-reading inside the channel where announcements land.

Who should look elsewhere

If your organisation runs on Microsoft 365 and Teams, Copilot gives you the in-channel equivalent without a second platform. If what you need is measured, multi-channel employee communication with reach reporting, look at Poppulo or Simpplr rather than a messaging tool. And if you are on Slack Free or Pro, the agent features that make this interesting are mostly on higher plans, so price the upgrade before planning around them.

Key features

  • • Slackbot, a personal AI agent that searches and acts across what you can already see in Slack
  • • Thread and channel summaries, huddle notes and daily recaps
  • • AI writing in canvases and AI steps in Workflow Builder (Business+)
  • • AI assistant apps for third-party agents, including Claude Tag
  • • AI search across messages and files, plus enterprise search on Enterprise+
  • • Channel, thread and huddle messaging with a large app ecosystem

Governance & data

Data inputs Messages, threads, files, canvases and huddle content the user can access; for third-party agents, whatever the admin lets them reach in each channel
Model training & controls Slack states that it does not train large language models on customer data and runs third-party models inside its own infrastructure. Third-party agents such as Claude Tag follow their own vendor's terms, so check each one.
Admin, SSO & permissions Org owners and admins can set or restrict Slackbot access; app installation controls; per-channel scoping for third-party agents
Audit trail & approvals Message history and exports subject to plan and retention settings; audit logs on Enterprise plans
Risk notes Tell staff before an agent can read or summarise their channels, and agree which channels are in scope. Keep AI recaps of sensitive channels (HR, restructure, crisis) off by default, and treat an agent summary of staff reaction as a starting point for your own judgement.

Governance information is based on publicly available vendor documentation. Verify with your vendor before procurement decisions.
